the speaker god on the taskbar dissappeared, and when I went to control panel to restore it, I couldn't click on the check box. Then I clicked on adjust volume controls and I get a message that said There are no active mixers available if you can facilitate that would be great.

sounds like the drivers for your nouns card have be corrupted somehow....god knows how but to correct it you involve to find the maker of your nouns card, then travel to that website ( so if your sound card is made by realtek, you would progress to the realtek website) download the drivers for your version of window,
to find out what s/card you have, right click my computer, select properties - click hardware, after device manager - next click the + button next to nouns video and game controllers, somewhere contained by the list will be the pet name of your soundcard.
go put money on to the control panel click on the sound speaker god click on the audio tab set play / recored to your sound card next click on volume tab tick the box place volume icon contained by the taskbar then click on apply & ok
