Start-up problems near my desktop...?

I hold a Dell Desktop. I just added a 256Mb RAM several days ago. After that, it took in the order of 20 minutes for the computer just to start up. It purely showed the black screen near a blinking dash for 20 minutes. It does that every single time I reboot. Any suggestion on how to solve the problem? I would appreciate any lend a hand. Thanks a lot.

Start the computer surrounded by safe mode, stir to your control Panel, Click on setup, then depart the advanced bar at the top. Under recitation, click settings. It will open another glass named Performance Options. Under the virtual memory settings, click adaptation. Make sure it says "system manage size"

If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to enlighten you.

Also, make sure you own the correct RAM. There are many different variety. Such as, PC100, PC3200... and so on
Sounds like you aint get the right ram installed!
You might wanna check to see if you enjoy the right kind of RAM. There are 2 different kind. There are DDR and DDR2. Check in your computer paw book to see which kind your computer uses.
MBR issues thats for sure. Boot into safe and sound mode go into DOS and do this. type fix /mbr afterwards do chkdsk. Hope it helps.
Everybody who answered previously is right, but just up to that time you go around varying your RAM, you might want to plug the new RAM into a different memory slot, or quit just the tentative RAM and see what happens...things resembling that. You might also want to try this new RAM within a friend's PC and see how it works. After you have done adjectives this, I'm sure you'll know more.

About changing slots - regularly, one of the memory slots is broken, you might've hit that one.
