I hold a Sony Vaio VGC-RB30 computer, the factory dvd rw drive is a DW-D22A.
The drive will no longer read dvds at all but will read cds and I've be troubleshooting it for weeks, trying updated firmwares, etc. Nothing has worked so I want to buy a up to date drive.
I need a counsel for a good replacement. And also I have need of to know, are all dvd rw drives global, meaning can I be sure doesn`t matter what I get will fit right within the computer?
Replacing dvd rw drive surrounded by desktop computer, own question...?
As far as compatability, any internal dvd drive will fit fine. They are relatively easy to replace.
Most drives are matching size.
Look for a DVD burner at http://www.newegg.com when you do the search, you can SORT it out BY RATING, so you see what other citizens think are the BEST.
OR, you can stir to STAPLES and buy one. They sell a SONY DVD Burner next to Double Layer burning for about $85. The correct part just about Staples is their return policy. If you don't like it, basically take it put money on. (hold on to that receipt).
Good luck and Happy Computing!
I had alike problem but 2 days ago I called the company I boought it rotten ,DELL, and they sent me a new one, for free.
Ring the company who made your computer and they will communicate you what to do.
They are pretty universal, DVD drives are purely the evolution of CD drives and those connect to the internal cable explicitly used by the hard drive so those are pretty much standard. There does exist exceptions, approaching external (usb, firewire).
